When Great Candidates Become Terrible Leaders

If an executive quits within three years of promotion or hire, is it a personal failure or an HR failure?  On average, 40% of new executives don’t surpass 18 months in the job.  With a failure rate this high, it is a circumstance that every talent management leader must confront.  Sydney Finkelstein, the Steven Roth Professor of Management at Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College, summarizes some of the reasons why in his book, Why Smart Executives Fail.
