Own the Room – Tips For Becoming A Signature Leader

Regardless of your rank, managers are under the microscope, right now. People are constantly evaluating you, judging your actions and behaviors, so what can you do? Muriel Maignan Wilkins and Amy Jen Su are the co-authors of Own the Room: Discover Your Signature Voice to Master Your Leadership Presence.

In the book they offer some useful tips and showcase noteworthy leaders like Steve Jobs, Bill Gates and Al Gore.

Tom Fox is the Vice President for Leadership and Innovation at the Partnership for Public Service. He told Chris Dorobek on the DorobekINSIDER program that sometimes when we hear terms like optics or creating your own presence it seems almost like mysticism.

"People think that you are either born a leader or you aren't, but this book breaks down and helps you understand the concepts," said Fox.

  • Demonstrate that you have something to offer people.
  • Connect with folks comfortably and authentically in a way that allows your message to resonate.
  • Need to identify role models who can provide a roadmap.
  • Need to be clear about what you can offer people.
